Dear Parents,                                                     November 1, 2010

This week, our reading strategy is “predict/infer”.  Before reading a story, we look at the cover, the title and the pictures and make educated guesses (or predictions) on what the story will be about.  While reading, we use information learned to conclude (or infer) if our prediction is correct or what will happen next.  The comprehension skill that will help us with this reading strategy is predicting.  Our phonics focus this week is a review of the short sound of /i/ and verb endings –s, -ed, and –ing.  We will also focus on possessive -’s.  Our grammar focus continues to be what makes a sentence a sentence.  This week, our spelling words are from unit 10 – a short vowel review.  We are starting chapter 3 in math this week.  Chapter 3 has us learning different was to add and subtract to/from 10.  In religion, we will finish our chapter on how God speaks to us and get ready for the Saints Parade.  We are going to concentrate on science for the next two weeks with our study of animals.

Please remind your child to bring their library book to school tomorrow so that they may check out a new one.

The City Outreach program on Bats has been rescheduled for tomorrow.

The Saints Parade is Friday.  Join us for 8:30 mass, the presentation of our saints, and the parade around the field.  It is a day not to be missed!  Please make sure to practice the three-sentence report with your child every night.

Water bottle sales continue on Tuesday and Thursday.  Thank you for your support!

It is All About…Aliyah this week.  Congratulations!

Friday is a noon dismissal day as the teachers have a staff meeting.

If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know.  Have a wonderful week!
Mrs. Manning
