Dear Parents,                                                     February 22, 2011

I hope that you all enjoyed the long weekend.  That extra cup of coffee in my P.J.’s was quite nice!

We are finishing theme 6 in our reading series this week and will spend the week reviewing and assessing.  Vowel pairs can be difficult for children to grasp – any additional help you provide at home and during reading will benefit your child greatly.  Please remember to go online to Spellingcity.com and continue to practice the posted words – play the games and take the test.

In math this week, we continue to compare numbers using the < (less than), > (greater than) and = (equal to) symbols.  Practice this at home – remember when looking at two digit numbers, you need to check the number in the tens place first to see which number is greater.  In religion, we are learning that we can show God that we love him by respecting life.  We know that taking care of ourselves is part of this.  We will have our Family Life lesson, “Caring for oneself” and our Virtus Lesson this week.  We are concentrating on social studies this week and next as we are working on our project for the school fair.

I did send an e-mail over the weekend requesting clean recycled boxes.  Thank you to those who brought them in today.  If you did not, please send in a clean box as soon as you can.  Cereal, snack foods, shoebox, cylinder oatmeal, tissue boxes all work well.  I will be sending home the boxes and colored paper tomorrow and ask that you cover the box as you would a gift.  We will be decorating them in school on Thursday.

Wednesday is a free dress day.  Kindergarten through fourth graders are to wear cartoon-themed shirts and fifth through eighth are wearing twin or triplet outfits.  The cost is $1.00.

Friday is Primary Centers and a noon dismissal day as the teachers have a staff meeting.

Have a wonderful week.  If you have any questions or concerns please let me know.

Mrs. Manning
