Dear Parents,                                                     May 31, 2011

I hope you all enjoyed the wonderful Memorial weekend – what a taste of summer!  There is still quite a bit to do so I am asking that you continue to require the best work from your children.  Please encourage them to print and color neatly and to take pride in their work.

The children did a wonderful job with their descriptive writing projects – painting a picture through their use of describing words.  The rough drafts should be in their orange folders.  The final writing project will be attached to their watercolor paintings that were completed on Thursday – and they are beautiful!

We will continue with our reading series, however our main focus this week in language arts is our research report.  The children are completing graphic organizers and researching more information on their chosen animal through classroom books and the WorldBook website in the computer lab.

In math we will continue to work on time and measurement and will review money as well as the basic facts.

Religion finds us learning about the gifts of the Holy Spirit and how we can bring those gifts to others – in our families, school, parish, and communities.

Our mixing matter science experiments were lots of fun as we made a “perfect solution” (a mixture that cannot be separated).  We enjoyed consuming this “solution” (koolaid) with a zoo animal cupcake to celebrate reaching 100 class points.

In social studies, we continue to study the continents.  If you have an item from another continent and would like to send it to school – we’d love to see it!  We are “mapping” the places we can visit through these items on our world map.

It is All About…Sophia this week.

Friday is a noon dismissal day as the teachers have a staff meeting.

Should you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Have a great week,

Mrs. Manning
