Dear Kindergarten Parents,

I hope everyone enjoyed the sunshine and had a nice weekend. This will be a regular week, with the exception of our outreach program, “Hey Little Ant” on Thursday. RAYS  (Reading Awakens Young Scientists) is an enrichment program that introduces young minds to science and technology through children’s stories and lab work. This program follows state and national standards for life science, investigation and experimentation.

Remember to return your library book — to check out a new one on Tuesday.

Next week is already Valentine’s Day! I am asking for your children to just write their name on the cards  they exchange with friends. We will have a simple party, exchanging Valentines and centers to go along with the celebration.

I will be out of town next week for three days and will miss Valentine’s Day.  As before, your children will be in good hands, Mrs. Vazquez will be my substitute.

Taking care of our feelings and growing in virtue, is our religion focus. We will discuss how we can show our feelings in good ways and by using our hands to help others.  Scripture lesson: Two blind men, Matthew 20:30-34.

Our reading strategy for this week is categorizing and classifying, noting beginning, middle, and ending when reading stories.  Focus on letters Pp, Rr, and Vv using sight words in sentences, short vowel /a/ and word families ‘at’ and ‘an’. Numbers 10-12, identifying combinations and ordering numbers 0-12. We will use our own number line to add.

As we work to understand important people in the history of our country, President’s Day will be related through our February Quilt. **Please send in one shiny penny and one quarter for this project.

We will be checking our seeds everyday to see if they have sprouted. Please send in a small bag of top soil to fill a gallon size container. Ash Wednesday will be the day we transplant our seeds, to watch our sunflowers grow during the 40 days of Lent.

This should take us through the week!

Any questions or comments –feel free to contact me.
