Hello 3rd Grade Families,

Please make sure that you are reviewing and signing your child’s planner every night. If you’ve fallen out of the habit, there’s no time like the present to get back into it.

This week in class…

Math: Unit 3: Measurement. In class, the students will be measuring to the nearest half and quarter inches. Please take some time this week to go over the difference between halves and quarter inches with your child on the ruler.

For IXL homework this week, please complete the following Skills…

U.21 Choose the Appropriate Measuring Tool

S.1 Read Clocks & Write Times

D.7 Subtract Numbers with 4 or more digits

Reading: The students have learned all about writing titles of books. As additional practice, please make sure that your child is the one entering in book titles on Reading Glue. It’s great reinforcement of those skills taught.

This week, the class is learning all about making meaningful connections to texts with the purpose of improving understanding. This week’s Parent Pipeline will show you ways to incorporate this skill into your regular reading routine.

Word Work: Our next spelling test will be on Friday. As you study at home, I suggest focusing on the sounds each word makes as well as the spelling pattern. Dictation sentences continue to incorporate words not featured on the spelling list. Students should be able to apply the skills learned to determine these. Remember to check the back side of your child’s spelling test to see how he or she is doing on this. Correctly applying and using spelling skills in writing is, after all, the ultimate purpose.

Vocabulary: The Unit 3 test will be next Friday, continuing the bi-weekly testing schedule from here on out. The students will be completing this independently, so take some time to review and practice the words at home. The Vocabulary Workshop site is an excellent resource. Instructions for access this can be found on the inside of your child’s planner.

Grammar: We will continue with Unit 2 (Nouns), Lesson 2. Use the Grammar Workshop site for extra practice and reinforcement. It’s a great resource!

Science: The class begins an all new unit this week on LIGHT!

Social Studies: We continue learning all about landforms!

Religion: In keeping with this, our attention remains on Chapter 4: God Called Mary. Click here for the study guide.

All the Best,

Ms. Espinosa
