Hello Third Grade Families,

We will busy as every this week. A special Halloween science lab, art with Mrs. Spooner, the great California Shake Out (earthquakes preparedness), oh my!

Take a look at what we’re planning…

Math: We will continue our unit on measurement, now turning our attention to perimeter before we learn about area.

For IXL homework this week, please complete the following Third Grade Skills…

BB.13 Which metric unit of length is appropriate?

FF.1 Perimeter

Reading: We are now in the home stretch of Unit 1: Building a Reading Life. Building on last week’s theme of using strategies to tackle harder texts, we will spend some time using textual clues to figure out the meaning of unfamiliar words as well as making sense of figurative language. The students have been doing a great job of logging in at least 100 minutes of reading every week. Keep up the good work!

Word Work: New words went home on Monday. Students will keep these words for two weeks.

Writer’s Workshop: Like reading, we are beginning to round the corner on writing. We will spend the earlier part of this week working on paragraphing to support sequencing, dialogue and elaboration with our sights now set on publishing our first piece.

Grammar: Continuing our study of nouns, Lesson 14 is all about possessive singular and plural nouns.

Science: Our science coach is back! Thursday morning, Dr. Rzasa will be here for a very special Halloween lab. I promise, this is one the students will never forget.

Religion: This week the class will complete Chapter 3: We Are God’s Holy People. There will be a quiz on Thursday. Click here for a study guide.

Have a great week!

Ms. Espinosa
