Hello Third Grade Families!

Happy Halloween! Temporary tattoo sales begin today and continue throughout the week leading up to Friday. Although only two may be applied to the hands on Halloween, students may purchase as many as they would like with all additional tattoos being sent home. All profits raised will be going to the Adopt-a-Family program.

In class this week, we’ll be studying the following:

Math: This week we will finish Unit 3: Linear Measures and Area. We will be focusing on the difference between area and perimeter and end the unit with an exploration of circumferences. As always, I suggest using the Home Links at www.everydaymathonline.com to prepare, as there is one for each lesson. Your child’s username and password can be found in his/her planner.

For IXL math homework, please complete the following Third Grade skills:

R. 22 Is it a polygon?

N.3 Purchases – do you have enough money – up to $10

N.4 Making change

Spelling: Click here to download this week’s spelling words and pattern/principle. Our next spelling test will be this Friday.

Vocabulary: We will begin Unit 6. For a list of the words, definitions and additional practice go to the vocabulary workshop site. Instructions, along with a username and password, can be found taped on the inside cover of your child’s planner.

Reading: Library day is Thursday! Please remind your child to bring any books that are checked out so that they may be renewed or check back in.

Please remember to bring in your child’s book for his/her small reading group. We are scheduled to begin reading them this week.

English: The class will continue Unit 2 in our grammar books this week with Lessons 12 and 13. Our Unit 2 is tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, November 18th. Log on to the Grammar Workshop website for additional practice and skills reinforcement. Directions can be found in your child’s planner.

Science: We will continue Chapter 7, “Chemical Changes,” as well learn all about the difference between physical and chemical changes. Our next science test is tentatively scheduled for Thursday 11/13.

Social Studies: The students will finally be painting our landform models. Then, we will learn all about California’s regions.

Religion: The class will continue a short unit on the Rosary.
