Hello 3rd Grade Families,

Teddy Bear Day is fast approaching! Be sure to pick up a new stuffed animal for children whose families are part of the LA Archdiocese Adopt-a-Family program. We are happy to store these in the classroom as a visual reminder to all of those who plan to participate, so feel free to start bringing them in.

This is the final week of Trimester 1. We are one-third the way through the school year.

This week in class…

Math: Unit 4 — This week we move from multiplication concepts to beginning division. The students are enjoying working with counters and various other manipulatives in order to combine and separate equal groups.

For IXL homework this week, please complete the following Skills…

E.3 Write multiplication sentences for equal groups.

E.5 Identify multiplication expressions for arrays.

Reading: Last week we spent some more time going over how to properly write book titles. As you read and complete your reading logs at home, take a moment to review and correct these as needed. If you need a refresher, see Grammar Workshop lesson 44 (link below).

Word Work: This week’s sort will last two weeks. Our next spelling test is scheduled for next WEDNESDAY. All sorts this week are especially challenging. Use the extra time to practice and study.

Grammar: We will continue with Unit 2, taking some more time to practice Lesson 14: Possessive Nouns. This one is a challenge so I would encourage all to take some time this week and practice when to put the apostrophe before and after the letter s. Also, review when not to use an apostrophe at all (hint: plural nouns).

Science: The RAYS program is back for our second in-house field trip! Thursday morning’s story and lab theme is “Music Over Manhattan.”

Social Studies: All about Thanksgiving!

Religion: The class will begin Chapter 6: We Believe in God. This week will focus on the Apostles’ Creed.

All the Best,

Ms. Espinosa
