Dearest Third Grade Families,

The School Fair is just over a month away (February 26th). Please look inside your child’s Work Folder this Tuesday for directions on the 3rd grade projects.

This week we’ll be studying the following:

Math: This week the class will continue Unit 5 (Place Value) covering lessons 5.5, 5.6, 5.7 and 5.8. Feel free to follow along with us at www.everydaymathonline.com. Your child’s username and password can be found in his/her planner. The Chapter 5 test will be on Wednesday, January 22nd.

Also, please remember to continue practicing those 8 multiplication and division Facts Goals. Individual student testing will begin this week. Look in your child’s planner for a note indicating whether he/she is ready to go on to the next Goal or needs some more practice on the current one. Click here for the individual goals.

For IXL math homework, please complete the following Third Grade skills:

F.10 Multiply by 9

B.7 Convert from expanded form

B.8 Convert between standard and expanded form.

Reading: The class will begin working on a comparative Allan Say unit this week. Click here for the Reading Log.

English: The class will continue Unit 3 in our grammar book. This week we will cover Lesson 16 (Present Tense Verbs). Students can always study along with us using the Grammar Workshop series online.

Spelling: Click here to download this week’s spelling words and pattern/principle.

Vocabulary: This week we complete Unit 9. There will be a quiz on Friday. As a reminder, vocabulary words and practice activities are always available online at the Vocabulary Workshop website. Your child’s username and password can be found in the planner.

Science: We will continue Chapter 9 building upon our vocabulary of light by learning words like translucent, transparent and opaque.

Social Studies: The Spanish are Coming! This week we will finish our study of European explorers on California’s coast. Read along with us at www.estudiesweekly.com.

Religion: We will continue Chapter 8 “God is Holy and Great.” The chapter quiz will be on Wednesday, January 22nd. Click here for the chapter Study Guide.
