Dear Third Grade Families,

I hope everyone enjoyed the extra hour of sleep this weekend! This Wednesday we will have a Free Dress day in order to raise funds for the Adopt a Family program. Students who would like to participate should bring $1 (or more!). It’s going to a great cause.

This week in class, we will be working on the following:

Math: We will continue with multiplication concepts by taking a closer look at arrays. The class will also begin multiplying by 2. Please take some time this week to review doubles facts up to 10 as these are multiplication facts for 2.

Language Arts: We continue to read Bunnicula with our goal to finish next Friday. Our next book is a classic: Ramona Quimby, Age 8 by Beverly Cleary. I’m planning to begin this after Thanksgiving so you have plenty of time to pick it up if you haven’t already. In spelling, we are studying words that make the vowel sound in “lawn.” In writing, we have brainstormed ideas for improving our communities, school or home and will continue with the prewriting stages of our persuasive letters.

Unit 11

Reading Log

Science: We continue with chapter 8 “Forms of Energy.” As always, we will visit the lab on Tuesday. This week, we will be learning about heat and gas energy with Mr. Doswell.

Social Studies: We will continue with our Social Studies readers. This week, we’re learning about our state flag!

Religion: This week we will complete our study of the Rosary with chapter 4, “God Called Mary.” We will have a quiz on Friday. Students are welcome to take their books home and study if they’d like.

Have a great week!

Mrs. Espinosa
