Dear Third Grade Parents and Families,

We have another busy week in store for us. Tuesday is the very last day to turn in money for donuts. Students may purchase as many as they’d like at the cost of $1 each. On Friday, the donuts will be distributed for all to enjoy. At this time, students will be able to eat only one. Any more than that will be packed up for them to take home and enjoy.

Next Wednesday is our first field trip. Although it is a Free Dress Day, we plan to wear our uniforms while out and about. More information to follow in next week’s newsletter.

This week we will be studying the /o/ sound in lawn and its various spellings. In math, we will continue practicing subtraction, advancing to subtracting across zeros. In small reading groups, we will continue to read Charlotte’s Web as well as Judy Blume’s Fudge-a-Mania and selections from Starting Off Strong, an introduction to shared inquiry. We will also look back at the genres of reading (realistic fiction, fantasy) and non-fiction (biography, directions) that we have studies thus far. In grammar, we will begin our study of adjectives, and we plan to complete publishing our friendly letters in Writer’s Workshop. We also hope to conduct our first science “experiment” this week, looking at how living things compete. Finally,  we will study the 10 Commandments and God’s covenant of love in religion.

All the best for a great week!

Reminder: Thursday, November 11th is Veteran’s Day. School will not be in session.
