Hello 3rd Grade Families,

Happy Veteran’s Day! In observance of the holiday, school will not be in session on Wednesday.

In other news, donut sales continue. Students should bring $1 no later than November 16th should they decide to participate. Donuts will be delivered on November 19th.

This week in class…

Math: At last, we begin Chapter 4: Multiplication & Division. This is one of three chapters dedicated to these foundational operations over the course of this year.

For IXL homework this week, please complete the following Skills…

E.1 Count Equal Groups

E.2 Multiplication Expressions for Equal Groups

E.4 Relate Addition/Multiplication for Equal Groups

Reading: Our reading focus will be centered on vocabulary development: Tune in to Interesting Words and Use New Vocabulary in Speaking and Writing. Click here for the corresponding Parent Pipeline. As you work with your child in reading this week, make it your goal to define those interesting words and chart them. Sticky notes are great for this! Your chart will work as a visual reminder to try and use these words in your day-to-day conversations.

Word Work: Our next spelling test is schedule for Tuesday 11/10. This will be on last week’s words.

Since there is a holiday this week, there will be no new spelling words introduced until Friday. In fact, from now on students will be getting their new words every Friday, thus giving families a full week to practice and study for tests the following week.

Vocabulary: We will begin Unit 5 this week. The quiz will be next Friday.

Grammar: We will continue with Unit 2, taking a closer look at Lesson 14: Possessive Nouns. The Unit 2 Test will be Tuesday, November 24th.

Science: Quick energy review.

Social Studies: All about Veteran’s Day!

Religion: The class will begin Chapter 9 — God is Just and Merciful. In the spirit of Thanksgiving, we will learn all about living in peace with God and each other.

All the Best,

Ms. Espinosa
