Hello Third Grade Families,

Happy Catholic Schools Week! We will be busy as ever with the following:

Tuesday – Faculty & Staff Appreciation Day

Wednesday – Student Appreciation Day (free dress & lunch for all!)

Thursday – Parish Appreciation Day

Math: This week we will do our best to finish up our study of decimals. The Unit Test is tentatively scheduled for next Wednesday, February 4th. As always, see the Home Links at www.everydaymathonline.com for extra practice & review of skills learned in class. Your child’s username and password can be found in his/her planner.

For IXL this week, students are to complete the following third grade skills:

B.8 Convert between standard and expanded form

W.6 Order Decimals

W.7 Add and Subtract Decimals

Math facts testing resumes this week. Below is a copy of the 8 individual multiplication and division goals. Students should be studying their specific goal at home for 10-15 minutes every night. In doing so, remember to reinforce the relationship between multiplication and division. (It’s all skip counting.) Click here for the list of math facts goals for 3rd grade.

Spelling: Click here for this week’s spelling words & pattern.

Vocabulary: We will complete Unit 10. Our next vocabulary quiz will be this Friday.

Reading: We continue our new unit on biographies of “interesting and notable people” with a focus on women in history.

Grammar: The class will continue our study of verbs with Lessons 23 & 24 (irregular verbs). Next week we will finish Unit 3 with a test on Friday, February 6th.

Science: Chapter 4 – The Solar System. This week we will take a closer look at what makes up the inner and outer planets. Our next science test is rescheduled for Monday, February 2nd. Finally, don’t forget to start planning your School Fair project.

Social Studies: We will begin to finish our study of the Native Americans.

Religion: The class will start Chapter 14, “Jesus Called Us his Friends.”

Mark your calendars! Our field trips have been scheduled and permission slips have been e-mailed. If you have not done so already, please take a moment this week to print these out and send them in.

Best,

Mrs. Espinosa
