Hello Third Grade Families,

It was a pleasure meeting everyone at conferences last week. Thank you for taking the time to meet and discuss your child’s progress. I look forward to watching each student grow even further as the year progresses.

This week we’ll be studying the following:

Math: The class will continue with Unit 4 (Multiplication & Division) covering lessons 4.6, 4.7 and 4.8. The Unit 4 Test will take place next Wednesday. In addition, students should begin studying their multiplication and division facts. Individual goals assessments will begin upon our return in January.

As always, I encourage you to follow along with us by completing the Home Links at www.everydaymathonline.com. Your child’s username and password can be found in his/her planner.

For IXL math homework, please complete the following Third Grade skills:

F.1 Multiply by 0

F. 6 Multiply by 5

F. 11 Multiply by 10

Spelling: Click here to download this week’s spelling words and pattern/principle.

Vocabulary: This week we will continue Unit 8. The words, definitions and practice exercises are available at the Vocabulary Workshop website. Your child’s username and password can be found in his/her planner.

Reading: The class will continue reading and discussing books from our leveled library in small groups. We will incorporate fluency into even more reading groups in order to build our comprehension skills.

Click here to download the Reading Log. (Note: We will have a new reading log after the Christmas break.)

English: In Writer’s Workshop, we will continue moving toward publishing our personal narratives. Now that the students have learned what it is to “revise and resubmit,” we begin the editing process. For those not quite at the editing stage, drafting continues. Students should be incorporating all skills taught during mini-lessons into their drafts.

Science: In class we will continue Chapter 8, Lesson 3: “Waves” by learning more about sound waves.

Social Studies: We will continue to learn about California American Indians and the U.S. Government.

Religion: We will continue Chapter 11, “God Sent Us His Only Son.” There will be a Chapter quiz next Wednesday. Click here for the Study Guide.

Best,

Mrs. Espinosa
