Dear Third Grade Parents and Families,

Happy New Year! I hope that you all enjoyed a restful and joyous holiday season. Thank you so very much for your thoughtful and generous Christmas gifts. They were a pleasant surprise and a great way to kick off the long vacation. Also, a big Thank You is in order for our Room Moms who planned our classroom Christmas celebration from beginning to end. The children had a fantastic time and were overjoyed with their new books.

It’s hard to believe that we’re back already. This week, third grade will hit the ground running picking up right where we left off. In spelling, we will begin Unit 16 (more “bossy r” words). In language arts, we will begin a study of prefixes to be followed by a study of common suffixes. We also begin our new reading groups. In Science, we will continue our study of the solar system moving now past telescopes and comets and into the solar system. And finally, in math, we will complete our unit on customary and metric units of measure and move into multiplication concepts. You can look forward to receiving a multiplication folder next week when we begin learning our facts.

On Tuesday, we begin our new library schedule. Please remind your child to bring his/her book to school so that a new one can be checked out.

As a general reminder, please make sure that you send your child with a healthy snack every day as well as a clean bottle of water.
