Hello Third Grade Families,

Happy Monday! As a reminder, Valentine boxes are due in class no later than Friday so that we can decorate them on Monday. See previous e-mail for detailed instructions.

Math: Math: Unit 6 continues with a focus on symmetry and congruence before moving into polyhedrons (3-dimentional shapes). We will learn to identify and count apexes, faces, bases, edges and vertices.

IXL Homework:

CC5: Lines, Line Segments & Rays.

CC6: Angles greater than, less than or equal to a right turn.

DD3: Classify quadrilaterals.

Reading:  The class will dive further into our unit on character studies, now moving from partnerships into Book Clubs!!! We will learn how to prepare for book club discussions, practice selecting a text and agree on pacing. Most importantly though, students will begin practicing having meaningful discussions about their reading through simple, quick book talks.

Word Work: This week’s words can be found in your child’s planner. Our spelling test is scheduled for Friday.

Grammar: Our grammar focus is on helping verbs again (Lesson 22), this time taking a closer look at has, have and had. Students will practice making sure that the helping verb agrees with the subject of the sentence.

Writer’s Workshop: Students will learn all about researching facts in order to ensure text accuracy.

Science: Periodic Table of Elements research findings are due Tuesday, February 7th. Later this week, we will begin putting it all together onto individual pieces of the puzzle in preparation for the School Fair on Wednesday, February 22nd.

Have a great week!

Best,

Ms. Espinosa
