Hello Third Grade Families,

This week we are closing out chapters in science, math and grammar. As always, students are welcome to take their books home in order to review so long as they return them the very next day.

In class…

Math: We will complete Unit 5 and begin Unit 6. The Unit 5 Test is scheduled for Wednesday, February 4th and will cover place value ranging from the hundredths to the millions. As always, see the Home Links at www.everydaymathonline.com for extra practice & review of skills learned in class. Your child’s username and password can be found in his/her planner.

For IXL this week, students are to complete the following third grade skills:

W.4 Number Sequences Involving Decimals

R.20 Lines, Line Segments & Rays

R.11 Area of Rectangles

Below is a copy of the 8 individual multiplication and division goals. Students should be studying their specific goal at home for 10-15 minutes every night. In doing so, remember to reinforce the relationship between multiplication and division. (It’s all skip counting.) Click here for the list of math facts goals for 3rd grade.

Spelling: Click here for this week’s spelling words & pattern.

Vocabulary: We will begin Unit 11. Our next vocabulary quiz will be next Friday.

Reading: We continue our unit on biographies of “interesting and notable women.”

Science: Monday we will close out Chapter 4 with a test. Then, we’ll begin Chapter 5 “Cycles and Patterns in Space.”

Social Studies: We will finish our study of the Native Americans.

Religion: The class will start Chapter 9, “God is Just and Merciful,” in preparation for Lent.

Our field trips have been scheduled and permission slips have been e-mailed. If you have not done so already, please take a moment this week to print these out and send them in.
