Hello Third Grade Families,

This promises to be another busy week…

Math: We will continue with Unit 7: Multiplication and Division. The students will be introduced to the use of parentheses and the order of operation as well as how to solve for multiplies of ten (5 x 50, 200 x 400, 3,000 x 6, etc.). Keep studying those multiplication and division facts. They are the basis for everything from here on out.

IXL Homework:

N.2 Understanding Parentheses (try for 25 minutes and then feel free to stop)

G.20 Squares up to 10 x 10

H.1 Multiply by a Multiple of 10

Reading: This week’s reading is all about lingering with a story after it’s done: looking back and analyzing an author’s craft. We will also spend some time comparing characters from within texts.

Homework: 100 minutes (minimum) read & logged + fluency.

Word Work: This week’s words can be found in your child’s planner. Our next spelling test is scheduled for Friday.

Writer’s Workshop: We will complete our unit on Informational Writing this week by taking a closer look at the writing “checklist” (rubric) and evaluating what needs to be revised before writing our introductions and conclusions.

Grammar: We will wrap up our unit on verbs with a quick look at Lesson 25: Contractions with not. The Unit 3 Test (all about verbs) is scheduled for next week. For review, I suggest logging on to Grammar Workshop’s website and taking advantage of some of the resources available.

Social Studies: Now that we have completed our unit on the Chumash, we will begin to learn all about government and citizenship.

Religion: This week marks the beginning of Lent. We will be in the Church for 8:30 mass on Ash Wednesday. All are welcome to join.

Have a great week!

Ms. Espinosa
