Hello Third Grade Families,

This week is a busy one. Please mark your calendars for the events below:

Tuesday: Report Cards go home. Remember to sign and return the envelope so that it may go home at the end of the year.

Wednesday: Free Dress! All participating students should bring $1 (or more) with all funds raised going directly to the St. Vince de Paul Society.

Friday: Free Dress…again! This one is for St. Patrick’s Day, so students should be sure to wear green.

Lastly, BIG congratulations are in order for the third grade Palmisano Writing Contest finalists: Genese, Roman and Eric. Bravo!!!

In class…

Math: We will begin a review of fractions focusing on fractional names, basic equivalent fractions and fractional parts of a group.

Reading: Read Across America continues! Students in third grade will continue to receive 1 ticket for every 20 minutes recorded in their reading logs, so make sure to fill these out neatly and regularly as you read. Note: Students are required to read a minimum of 100 minutes each week. Tickets will be given out when Logs are turned in on Tuesdays.

In Reader’s Workshop, we will begin our next unit: Research Clubs – Elephants, Penguins, Frogs, oh my!

Word Work: This week’s words can be found in your child’s planner. Our next spelling test is scheduled for Friday.

Writer’s Workshop: This week is dedicated to publishing and celebrating our hard work! Students will be working with their checklists to revise and edit their best and final drafts before turning their “expert books” in.

Grammar: This week we will begin Unit 4: Adjectives and Adverbs with Lesson 26: Adjectives. If you have a moment, take some time to review adjectives with your child this week. (Adjectives describe nouns. Some tell what kind while others tell how many.)

Science: We will continue with our unit on Organisms of Long Ago turning our attention now to species in danger. Students will take a closer look at both natural and human threats.

Social Studies: We will continue our unit on Government and Citizenship.

Religion: The class will finish begin Chapter 10: God Created People to Share His Life. Wednesday afternoon we go again to Stations of the Cross in the Church. As always, all are welcome to join us if your schedule permits.
