Dear Parents,             November 5, 2012

The students did a fantastic job in the Saints Parade! To all those who attended, thank you for your support!

This week, our reading strategy is “predict/infer”.  Before reading a story, we look at the cover, the title and the pictures and make educated guesses (or predictions) on what the story will be about.  While reading, we use information learned to conclude (or infer) if our prediction is correct or what will happen next.  The comprehension skill that will help us with this reading strategy is predicting.  Our phonics focus this week is a review of the short sound of /i/ and verb endings –s, -ed, and –ing.  We will also focus on possessive -’s.  Our grammar focus continues to be what makes a sentence a sentence.  This week, our spelling words are from unit 10 – a short vowel review.

We are still in the midst of chapter 3 in math.  This week we will begin to focus on related facts and fact families.

In religion we will be learning the different ways we pray to God. In science we continue with our study of animals through lessons on nocturnal animals. This week’s focus is on toads! In social studies we learn about the choices families make as well as families from long ago.

Reminders for the week:

  • Please remind your child to bring their library book to school on Tuesday so that they may check out a new one.
  • Wednesday is a $1 free dress day!
  • Friday is a half-day as the teachers have a staff meeting in the afternoon.
  • It’s All About…. Isaiah! Congratulations!

If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know.  Have a wonderful week!
