Hello Third Grade Families,

This week marks the beginning of Trimester 3. Time flies when you’re having fun!

Math: We will complete Unit 7 this week with a test on Thursday. Continue practicing to solve for extended facts in both multiplication (5 x 50, 200 x 400, 3,000 x 6, etc.) as well as division (540/90, 6,400/80, 5,600/700).

IXL Homework:

L.2 Divide Numbers Ending in Zeroes

FF.15 Compare Area and Perimeter of Two Figures

H.3 Multiply Numbers Ending in Zeroes

Reading: This month we will celebrate Read Across America with several weekly activities and even a school-wide raffle! Students in third grade will receive 1 ticket for every 20 minutes recorded in their reading logs, so make sure to fill these out neatly and regularly as you read. Note: Students are required to read a minimum of 100 minutes each week.

In Reader’s Workshop, we will be wrapping up our unit on Character Studies with some compare and contrast work across and within texts.

Word Work: This week’s words can be found in your child’s planner. Our next spelling test is scheduled for Friday.

Writer’s Workshop: In addition to wrapping up our current Reader’s Workshop unit, we will be finishing our unit on Informational Writing this week as well. We will write our conclusions before adding text features and returning to paragraphing. Next week will be dedicated to publishing and celebrating our hard work!

Grammar: This week we will finish Unit 3: Verbs. There will be a test on Lessons 15-25 on Friday.

Science: We move on to a new chapter, this one on Organisms of Long Ago. In the lab, we will be making fossils!

Social Studies: We will continue our unit on Government and Citizenship.

Religion: The class will finish Chapter 9 with a short quiz. Wednesday afternoon we begin our weekly Stations of the Cross at 2:00 in the Church. As always, all are welcome to join us if your schedule permits.

Have a great week!

Ms. Espinosa
