Dear Third Grade Families,

This week will be a very short one as Easter vacation is just around the corner. Thursday is a half-day with noon dismissal, and Friday is a holiday.

We are all done with Stations of the Cross for this season. In place of our usual Friday morning mass, we will attend 8:30 services on Wednesday. Our class will also be attending confession Tuesday afternoon.

As we begin the month of April, I encourage students to be working on their poems for the poetry contest. It is at the end of this month and the sooner each student commits this to memory, the sooner he or she can begin to polish his/her presentation.

Below you will find an overview of our studies for this week:

Math: We will continue with measurement now focusing on the metric system. Please continue to talk with your children about customary units of measure (lbs, oz, inches, feet & yards) as we will return to these at the end of the chapter. The students make so many great connections with measurement and life at home. Everything from cooking to filling up your gas tank is relatable.

Language Arts: Spelling – Unit 27: prefixes re- and un-. Reading – We will continue with our Beverly Cleary author study focusing on some of the vocabulary in Henry Writes a Letter. We will also be writing letters of our own in Writer’s Workshop. Vocabulary – Eating Out (Yum!).

Science: The class will explore the tundra and desert biomes in comparison to grasslands and forests studied last week.

Social Studies: We will be learning skills to resolve conflicts and build peace in communities. Words like compromise and mediator will be explored.

Religion: We will wrap up Chapter 22 with a quiz on Wednesday.

Have a great week and fantastic Easter vacation!

All the Best,

Mrs. Espinosa
