Dear Third Grade Families,

It feels good to be back at school. I was in New York for the past couple of days. This will be a very busy and eventful week, so let’s hit the ground running!

Starting on Tuesday, our class will begin recitation for the annual school poetry contest. Five students will be selected to move on to the school-wide competition from which one winner for each category will be awarded. Tuesday morning, I will start with volunteers. Wednesday morning, we will begin to draw sticks to determine who will recite next. Please continue to practice with your child at home. Remember, one prop is allowed.

Wednesday night is our Spring parent meeting. Many important announcements for next year will be made this night, so I encourage all to attend. It starts at 6:30pm in the Hall.

Wednesday is also a Free Dress Day. If you plan to participate, don’t forget to bring $1.

Friday is the school Jog-a-Thon. In order to participate, each student must have a signed permission slip turned in. Please make sure to return these, as well as the envelope, as soon as possible. Our class is scheduled to take the field from 9:55-10:25. Students should wear their PE clothes on this day.

Our third field trip is finally scheduled! We will be joining grades K-2 on a trip to the Ojai storyteller’s festival on Friday, May 4th. It is a short field trip as we will return before lunch.  Permission slips have already been sent home.

Permission slips for our visit to the Santa Barbara Sea Center will be sent home this Wednesday.

In terms of our studies this week, we will cover the following:

Math: We are wrapping up our chapter on measurement and plan to take a test covering both customary units and the metric system on Thursday.

Science: We are also finishing Chapter 1 in science. We will take the chapter test in class on Thursday as well.
