Hello Third Grade Families,

What a show! Bravo to all who participated in Wednesday’s spring musical revue. The students looked adorable and sounded spectacular.

We hope all are filling your donation envelopes for our school’s one and only fundraising event of the year: the Jog-a-thon!

Math: We continue with Chapter 9: Multiplication and Division. This week we will focus on dividing money before learning “lattice multiplication.”

IXL Homework:

S.2 Match Analog and Digital Clocks

H. 16 Lattice Mutiplication

Students will not be introduced to this until Wednesday and Thursday of this week. If you are interested in a short video on lattice multiplication, cut and paste the following link into your web browser:

R.11 Divide Money Amounts

(Note: We have not learned long division yet. Up to this moment, students have learned to divide money through the following steps: 1. How many $10 bills does each person get? 2. How many dollars are left to share? 3. How many $1 bills does each person get? 4. How many $1 bills are let over? 5. If the leftover $1 bill(s) are shared equally, how many cents does each person get?)

Reading: This week is all about summarizing. Click here for more information on how to practice this skill at home .

Fluency: Click here for this week’s fluency homework.

Reading Log: Students should log in a minimum of 100 minutes of reading this week.

Word Work: Our next test will be Wednesday. As a reminder, the goal of spelling and vocabulary is for students to apply it to their speaking and writing. Please work with your child on putting this week’s words to use by practicing putting words in context.

Science: This week is all about changing habitats through fire, flood, drought and pollution.

Social Studies: We will continue our unit on Government and Citizenship, now learning about the three branches of government.

Religion: Moving forward, the class finishes Chapter 17: Jesus Christ is Lord and King.

Best,

Ms. Espinosa
