Dear Parents,                     January 20, 2015

I hope everyone enjoyed the long weekend!

This week in first grade, we are doing a lot! And we have the 100th day of school on Wednesday! Woohoo!!

Language Arts: As we have a short week ahead of us, we will be taking our time to review. We will be working specifically on soft c and g, long a, digraphs, and sight words. Of course we will be continuing with our reading strategies with a large emphasis on retelling. On the 100th day of school we will be doing a very special writing activity that I hope all can see on Parents day (this Friday!).

Spelling: No new spelling words!

Writing: We have started our new writing unit – informative writing – and will be continuing with this style of writing throughout the next weeks. The students absolutely love sharing what they are “experts” in! I do encourage all of you to ask your child what he or she is writing about!

Math: We will be wrapping up our math unit. We will be practicing “What’s My Rule?” and finally taking our test!

Religion: We will be reading from our Family Life Series this week. We will be discussing feelings or emotions.

Science: In science we will continue with our chapter on environments. Last week we were able to discuss a stream habitat, which will lead us right into the lab on Tuesday!

Social Studies: In social studies we will be continuing our chapter on life in a community. We will be discussing Community Leaders. In addition, we will begin our Community Helper report, which will be on display for our School Fair held in early March!

Homework for the Week:

  • Tuesday: Math Worksheet
  • Wednesday: Math Worksheet
  • Thursday: Just reading log!
  • Friday: Read two times!

Reminders for the Week:

  • PE Uniforms on Tuesday and Thursday!
  • Please remind your child to bring their library book on Tuesday so that they may check out a new one.
  • Friday is the kickoff to our Catholic Schools Week and that means it is also Parents Day! If your schedule permits, please come spend the day with us! Please meet in the church for mass at 8:30. Afterwards, parents will be welcomed into the classrooms, until our dismissal at noon!

Have a wonderful week!

Ms. Manning
