Hello Third Grade Families,

Happy Valentine’s Day! Don’t forget to send in your child’s wrapped cereal box. We plan to transform them into decorative mailboxes on Friday. As a reminder, students who decide to share valentines should bring one for all 23 of us.

In class…

Math: We will continue Unit 6 – geometry! In class, we hope to cover lessons 6.2-6.5 where we will learn all about intersecting and parallel lines, angles and turns, triangles and quadrangles.

As always, see the Home Links at www.everydaymathonline.com for extra practice. Your child’s username and password can be found in his/her planner.

For IXL this week, students are to complete the following third grade skills:

R.21 Parallel, Perpendicular, Intersecting

R.13 Area of Complex Figures (with all right angles)

F.10 Multiply by 9

Below is a copy of the 8 individual multiplication and division goals. Students should be studying their specific goal at home for 10-15 minutes every night. In doing so, remember to reinforce the relationship between multiplication and division. (It’s all skip counting.) Click here for the list of math facts goals for 3rd grade.

Spelling: Click here for this week’s spelling words & pattern.

Vocabulary: We will complete Unit 11. Our next vocabulary quiz will be this Friday.

Reading: We continue our unit on biographies of “interesting and notable women.”

Science: The class will continue Chapter 5, “Cycles and Patterns in Space,” focusing on what causes the seasons. We will also extend our study of sunrise and sunset with a review of the direction the sun appears to move throughout the day.

Social Studies: We will begin our study of Unit 3: How Communities Began.

Religion: We will finish our study of Chapter 9 before this week’s special VIRTUS safety lessons on Wednesday and Thursday.

Our field trips have been scheduled and permission slips have been e-mailed. If you have not done so already, please take a moment this week to print these out and send them in.

Best,

Mrs. Espinosa
