Dearest Third Grade Families,

It’s field trip time! This Wednesday we will be going to the Chumash Indian Museum. Please make sure to arrive at school on time with a sack lunch and drink with your child’s name clearly written on them. Students should wear their regular school uniforms with comfortable shoes as there will be some outdoor walking.

The Jog-a-Thon is this Friday, May 9th. Please remember to sign up sponsors and return your envelopes as they act as permission slips too. See this week’s family newsletter for more information.

Finally, Progress Reports go home Tuesday. Please remember to sign and return them by Friday.

This week we’ll be studying the following:

Math: The class will complete Unit 8 (Fractions!) covering lessons 8.7 Fractions Greater than One, 8.8 Fraction Number Stories & 8.9 Assessment.

As always, I would encourage you to follow along with us by completing the “Home Links” at www.everydaymathonline.com. Your child’s username and password can be found in his/her planner.

Our Unit 8 math test is currently scheduled for this Thursday, May 8th.

Likewise, we continue to practice our multiplication and division facts. Take a look in your child’s planner for the latest progress report and individual goal. As a reminder, this is part of the nightly homework.

For IXL math homework, please complete the following Third Grade skills:

S.17 What Mixed Number is Shown

S.16 Fractions of a Number: Word Problems

S.9 Fraction Models Equivalent to Whole Numbers

Reading & Writing: Each student will be reciting his/her selected poem for the class this Thursday. Students are expected to recite clearly and audibly at a reasonable pace. Please practice at home so that students are comfortable and well rehearsed.
