Dearest Third Grade Families!

I hope everyone enjoyed the long weekend, making time to rest up and have a little fun too. I’m already looking forward to meeting many happy grandparents on Friday. All guests should plan to meet us in the church for 8:30 mass.

Important Dates:

*Wednesday is picture day! Please remember to either order your photos online or return the order form on the 6th.

*Friday is Grandparent’s Day. See you then!

Homework:

***Math: We will continue Chapter 1 reviewing skills taught and games introduced in previous grades. At this point, the Chapter 1 Test is tentatively scheduled for next Wednesday, September 13th.

For IXL Math homework this week, students should complete the following Third Grade skills:

D.1 Subtract Two Numbers Up to 3 Digits

C.1 Add Two Numbers Up to 3 Digits

Note: Just like the reading logs and fluency, all skills should be complete by next Tuesday.

***Reading: Reading Logs and fluency passages are going home this week as is our routine. Just like last week, they should come back on Tuesday inside the reading folder. Each student should be reading a minimum of 100 minutes per week. Of course, those minutes can be divided across the week in any way that works for you.

Curricular Spotlight:

Word Work: Next week we begin Words Their Way, a differentiated developmental approach to spelling, phonics and vocabulary instruction. Together with Mrs. Vazquez, students in the second and third grades have been identified as working on specific skills. Combining both classes, we have created 8 groups each working at their own level. On Monday, your child will go home with spelling words written in the planner as well as a label indicating which “Sort” (list of spelling words) he/he is on. Use the Sort # as a guide when you log onto SpellingCity.com to practice. The site is also a great way to access your child’s spelling list. Usernames and passwords can be found in the planner as well on a label inside the front cover.

Have a great rest of the week!
