Hello 3rd Grade Families!

We are really getting into the swing of things now working to build stamina and momentum. This week should be a busy one as we continue to establish our daily classroom and homework routines.

In class this week, we’ll be studying the following:

Math: Unit 1 Lessons 1.6-1.9. We continue to review key content. Follow along with us at www.everydaymathonline.com. While the “Home Links” are excellent support materials, keep in mind that this is not the math homework. Feel free to do these as math enrichment though as they work as EXCELLENT reinforcement of skills and concepts covered in class. Your child’s username and password can be found in his/her planner taped to the inside cover.

Next week, we will begin using IXL.com for homework.

Reading: We will begin our official book of the unit next week. As previously stated, this one is on us. No need to buy anything (yet). I will give you plenty of notice via e-mail when it is time to bring in the second.

This week we start the reading homework!!!

Click here to download the Fluency homework directions — they are the same as last year.

Both the reading log and fluency passage are due TUESDAY (as Monday is Labor Day).

Spelling: Click here to download this week’s spelling words and pattern/principle. There will be a test on Friday.

Vocabulary: We will complete Unit 1 with our first quiz on Friday. For a list of the words, definitions and additional practice go to the vocabulary workshop site. Instructions, a username and login information can be found taped on the inside cover of your child’s planner.

English: We will continue with Unit 1 in our Grammar books, “Sentences.” We plan to focus on kinds of sentences including statements, questions, commands and exclamations!

Science: We will visit the science lab again this week. In class, we will focus on Chapter 6, Lesson 1 “Matter.”

Social Studies: We will begin Chapter 1 of our social studies books, “Physical and Human Geography”!

Religion: We begin with Chapter 1, “God Calls Us,” learning the stories of Ruth and Abram. Attached is a “Study Guide” for you to follow along with at home. Chapter 1 Study Guide!
