Dear Third Grade Families,

I am pleased to report that our class collected 31 hats for children with cancer! Bravo to all of those who contributed. We will continue to pray for those who receive these hats and hope that they find some comfort in them.

This Thursday we will enjoy our second Harvest of the Month for the year. As always, we look forward to a delicious treat.

Thursday our class will also visit the SHS Library. Please remind your child to bring his/her books so that new ones may be checked out or current ones may be renewed.

In terms of our studies, we will be working on the following:

Math: We will continue working on Chapter 2: Time/Money/Calendar. We will work more specifically on equivalent amounts, making change and problem solving (word problems) involving money. Students will focus on when to use addition or subtraction in situations that involve money. We will focus on questions like, “How much did ___ spend?,” and “How much money did ___ have left.”

Language Arts: In spelling, we will work on the ___tch, kn___, and wr___ patterns. In writer’s workshop, we will begin drafting friendly letters. For reading, we will be transitioning from fiction to non-fiction with a biography of Harry Houdini and following some instructions for magic tricks!

Religion: We will begin Chapter 5, “Jesus Calls Us to Follow,” focusing on the apostle Saul.

Science: In Science, we will begin to look at compounds and mixtures.

Social Studies: Finally, in Social Studies we will reexamine why we have laws and consequences and begin to study community leaders like mayors and judges.

Have a great week!

Best,

Mrs. Espinosa
