Dear Second Grade Families,

We are back! Hope everyone had a blessed Easter and a great week off spending time with family and friends. We have many things to do as we memorize poems and prepare ourselves for First Reconciliation.

Homework:  Reading Log, Fluency, Study spelling words for unit 27 on Spelling City and practice poem.  I will send the reading log home with your child this week.  Remember to print out the fluency.

Presentation of Poem:  Children will begin their poem by saying their name and grade.  It will follow with the name and author of poem and recite their poem.  They may use one small prop. Next week, we will begin the selection for the speech contest. If you have any questions please send me an email.

IN THE CLASSROOM…

RELIGION: We will be reviewing chapter 13:  God Forgives and Helps Us Be Better.  We will be playing a religion jeopardy game to review chapter 13.  We will take our unit test on Thursday.  We are also preparing for our First Reconciliation.

LANGUAGE ARTS

Writing/Phonics:  creative writing; ABC order; Dictionary and Thesaurus work; poetry; more cursive handwriting

READING: We are reading Jalapeno Bagels by Natasha Wing.   Our strategy focus will be questioning. Students will ask a classmate to answer a question that the student knows is important about the story. Our comprehension skill focus is following directions

SPELLING: Unit 27, words with “ar” such as apartment and smart.

MATH: We will spend some time reviewing Fractions, 2 step words problems, graphing and addition and subtraction with and without regrouping.  We will discuss what tools can be used to measure and what they measure.

SCIENCE:  Continuing on Magnets

SOCIAL STUDIES:  Continuing on Where Food Comes From

April 17th:  1:00  FIRST RECONCILIATION…if you have any questions in regards to this special day please feel free to contact me.  Also, this day is free dress day for the students.  The children should wear their best free dress since we will be celebrating a special day.
