Welcome to the first full week of school!  I look forward to seeing everyone at Back to School night (parents only) this Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.  At that meeting I will outline our curriculum, procedures and expectations for the year. On Friday is the Back to School potluck, which begins at 5:30 p.m.

Please check and sign your child’s planner every night. Students are listing weekly and sometimes daily homework in there each day.

Here’s what we are working on this week:

Religion: Lesson One discusses how we come to know God through His Son Jesus.

Math: Our first lessons of Unit One focus upon geometry: lines, rays, segments, and polygons.  Students will have a “Study Link” worksheet for homework tomorrow, and it will be due on Wednesday.

Spelling: We are studying Unit One, “long and short a” words, and will have a test on these words on Friday.  We wrote the words in our planners last week.  Students are working on the unit pages in their Spelling books.

Grammar: We are learning about the four types of sentences.

Vocabulary: We have begun our study of Unit One words.

Reading:  Last week your child received the first Reading Log, which is due this Friday.  Each child has been assigned to a Reading group.  Our first selections are historical fiction, focusing on famous Americans, either Elizabeth Blackwell, Clara Barton, or Annie Etheridge.

Social Studies: We are beginning our study of California with a look at world geography (continents, locations using latitude and longitude).

Science: Our first unit focuses upon ecosystems, part of our life study curriculum.

See you on Wednesday evening!

Thanking you for your support,

Mrs. Mary Dwyer
