Last week we kicked off a month-long celebration of Read Across America! We will have several special activities during the month of March, and students will be earning tickets for a drawing to be held at the end of the month. They will earn one ticket for every 20 minutes of reading done at home. The minutes are to be listed on the reading log, along with a parent signature for each “reading at home” entry (no signature, no ticket). I will check the logs on Mondays and distribute tickets on Tuesdays.

We had two wonderful “field trips” last week: a trip to the Albinger Museum and San Buenaventura Mission, and an in-house presentation about the Gold Rush. Our next field trip will be on March 14th, when we take a trip to the Olivas Adobe here in Ventura. The cost for this trip is $30. Please click here for the permission form. olivas permission form

THE WEEK AHEAD:

Religion: We continue our study of the fourth commandment, moving on to the fifth commandment later in the week. We will be participating in Stations of the Cross at 2 p.m. every Wednesday during Lent, and you are most welcome to join us.

Math: We have moved on to Unit 6, which focuses on division and angle measurement. Students are to do ixL skills I 1, 2 and 3 this week. This will be due next Monday.

Reading Workshop: We have concluded our “Extreme Weather” research, and teams will be sharing what they have learned with the rest of the class. We will start reading biographies later this week. Please see the information above regarding our celebration of Read Across America. It is my hope that everyone will be able to earn 5 tickets each week (that’s 100 minutes of at-home). Please make sure you sign the log for minutes read at home. Click here for the reading log, which will be due next Monday. new reading log

Vocabulary: We continue our study of Unit 13 words; the test will be on Friday.
