Hello 3rd Grade Families,
It was a pleasure meeting so many grandparents last Friday. We had a full classroom buzzing with family and friends. Oh what a day it was!
This week in class…
Math: We have our first math test on Wednesday. It will cover all Chapter 1 content (which is almost entirely a review of grade 2 skills and concepts). After that we will begin Chapter 2, “Adding and Subtracting Whole Numbers.”
For IXL homework this week, please complete the following Skills…
C.8 Addition patterns over increasing place values
D.6 Subtraction patterns over increasing place values
Reading: All students are required to read a total of 100 minutes each week and record these in the reading log. Additional logs and new fluency passages will go home on Tuesday.
In class, we are practicing “Checking for Understanding” as well as “Making Higher-Level Predictions” as we read. Likewise, we have been working very hard on finishing the books we begin. Please remind your child that readers read chapter books from beginning to end.
Spelling: Take a peek in your child’s planner for the first week of spelling words! This first set of words will last for two weeks as we get into the routine. So the first spelling test will be next Friday. Go to SpellingCity.com for extra practice at home! Your child’s username and password can be found in the planner.
Grammar: We will spend some more time this week learning how to correctly use and punctuate dialogue. My hope is that this will transfer to student writing, as they are encouraged to bring their stories to life through the use dialogue in writer’s workshop. If you need a bit of a refresher, check out Unit 6, Lesson 47 on the Grammar Workshop website. Click here for the link.
Science: The class will continue with our first physical science unit by learning all about matter and atoms!
Religion: We continue to work through our unit, “God Calls Us”. If you’d like to know more, click here for the study guide!
Have a great week!
Ms. Espinosa
