Dear Second Grade Families,
We ended last week with a great Parent’s Day! This week we continue celebrating Catholics School’s Week with student appreciation on Wednesday. On Wednesday, your child will have lunch provided by Ms. Benner and may wear free dress. We look forward to an exciting week.
Our second grade family keeps growing. Today, we welcome Benjamin and Nathaniel to our second grade classroom. Welcome to SHS!
A Look at our Week:
The highlight for our second graders this week will be handwriting on Wednesday. Yippee!
HOMEWORK: Reading Log & Fluency… This week I will send 2 math worksheets to review concepts. Reminder: Homework is due on Friday.
RELIGION: Practice the Act of Contrition. We will be focusing on how Jesus Leads Us to His Peace. Vocabulary for this week is sin & temptation. We are also discussing how we are God’s Family through our Family Life Series.
LANGUAGE ARTS:
Reading: We will begin a new story “Ants”, a nonfiction selection reading for fluency and comprehension. We will also continue our read aloud, Boxcar Children (Book 1).
Spelling/: UNIT 19 ; We will focus on the –s and –es endings
ABC Order; Dictionary Work; Word families. Reminder: Practice spelling words on spelling city. Spelling test is on Thursday.
Writing: Persuasive writing/author’s chair/ capitalization and punctuation
MATH: Adding and subtracting facts to 20, practice, practice, practice; begin 2 digit subtraction without regrouping; We will be working with 2-D and 3-D shapes as we did on Parent’s Day. We will continue learning to identify the faces, vertices & edges of shapes. We will have our math test on Wednesday (two digit addtion with and without regrouping, graphing and word problem).
SCIENCE: We will be focusing on gravity, simple machines and review vocabulary & concepts to prepare for our science test on Thursday. Students will take home a review packet on Tuesday.
SOCIAL STUDIES: Communities; Write a letter to our Flat Host to return our Flat Students.
Important Dates to Remember:
1/30 Wednesday: Student Appreciation Day! Lunch will be provided by the school for all students. The students will have free dress on this day for all students and no homework. J
1/31 Spelling Test
2/1 Friday: Mass at 8:30 a.m. Noon Dismissal
