2nd Grade Families,
It was great to see many of you at Back to School. This week will be four full days with Friday being a minimum day. In our newsletter, you will find information regarding homework, special events, and a few highlights on what we are doing during the week.
HOMEWORK
ALL homework is due every Tuesday.
Reading Assignment: Children received their reading log in their homework folder. Please have your child fill out the reading log. Students are to read 100 minutes or more a week. You can use Scholastics Book Wizard Mobile and/or Level It Books App. These apps are free but you must register to use them.
Math Assignment IXL: Students must complete skill E.1 in the second-grade section of IXL. All students should use the same username and password used during the summer.
Fluency Assignment: Fluency will begin next week.
Spelling: No Word Sorts this Week. We continue to work on a routine for spelling/word work. Spelling will not begin until the week of September 11th.
ACADEMICS
Religion: We started our Family Life, God’s Gift of Love. I am requesting that all students bring a 4×6 family picture. I will be displaying the family picture on our religion board. Students will be allowed to touch and remove pictures as needed. The picture will not be returned until later in the school year. Please make sure to send it in no later than September 15th.
Math: We are working on recognizing the value of money and counting money. We will review skip counting, months of the year, and adding. Please practice the value of coins (nickel, dime, quarter, penny).
In about 2 weeks, I will be meeting with parents so we can set some academic goals for your child. As I mentioned at Back to School, I will be meeting with every parent.
Events/Service Hours
Tuesday and Thursday: P.E. uniforms…It will be HOT this week so be sure to send plenty of water.
Thursday: Beginning next week, students will be going to the library weekly and checking out 2 books. They must choose a book at their level and return them the following Thursday.
Friday: Dismissal 12:00
Monday: No School, Labor Day Weekend!
SAVE THE DATE: Grandparent’s Day is on September 8th! We begin with a mass followed by a snack for grandparents at Biederman Hall. Then, they will go to their grandchild’s class to participate in classroom activities. 🙂
SERVICE HOUR OPPORTUNITY: Please send me an email if you are interested in washing our classroom pillows. I am ready to send them on Friday. I would need 3 volunteers to take some home this week. Pillows are sent home on Friday and returned by Tuesday. You may come to the classroom to pick them after school. Please send me an email if you are interested.
