Hello Second Grade Families!
I hope all special guests and granparents had a great time as I did on Friday!
THINGS TO REMEMBER FOR THIS WEEK:
Tuesday & Thursday: P.E. Remember to send plenty of water and proper shoes.
Wednesday: Free Dress, bring $1 or more to donate towards Hurricane Harvey.
Thursday: Library Books due. Students were allowed to check out 2 books last week. Please make sure your child returns them on Thursday.
Friday: FULL DAY! The kids have filled the sparkler bucket this week. Our prize this week will be FLASHLIGHT FRIDAY. Please have your child bring a small flashlight to school on Friday. We will be using them while we read in class. We are ALL looking forward to this day!!!!!!
Homework
Below are two apps you can visit to help find leveled books. A little reminder from Back to School.
Apps: Scholastic Book Wizard App (Android/Apple)

Spelling: Today your child will receive their word sort. You will find their password in their planner on the very first page. Your child’s homework folder will also have a letter regarding spelling city. Please have your child practice their word sort using spelling city. The first spelling test will be on Friday.
MATH IXL: P.1 Identifying value of coins
Reading: Reading Log…Students must read a minimum of 100 minutes a week. Your child should fill out their own reading log.
ALL homework is due Tuesday.
A Peek at our Week:
Religion: Unit 2: Jesus Is God’s Best Gift
Reading: Students are practicing how to read in bigger scoops, taking sneak peeks before reading a new book and choosing how to read the book.
Writing: Printing practice; Writer’s Workshop
MATH: We continue with Unit1. We will complete this unit on Wednesday. Our review unit test will be on Friday. Things to practice at home: 10 more than 25/10 less than 25, equal to, simple addition/subtraction to 10, skip counting and telling time to the hour and half hour.
Science: Our experiment has been extended due to unexpected circumstances.
Some students have gone home with a hershey kiss today. Students are asked challenging questions throughout the week and sometimes they receieve a “kiss for their brain”. It’s a little reward for taking the challenge. All students end up receiving one by the end of the month. They are not allowed to eat it until they tell you why they received it.
If you read this newsletter by THURSDAY evening, please send me an email. Your child will receive a sparkle to add to the class bucket. As you know, sparklers are a BIG deal in our class. 🙂
