Dear Second Grade Families,

We have a short week as we begin our week on a Tuesday!   Tuesday folders will be sent home tomorrow.

IN THE CLASSROOM…

HOMEWORK:  Reading Log only (sent home).  Last week, I sent home an interview questionnaire that will be due on Thursday.

FIELDTRIP:

We will leave at 8:30 a.m.  and return to school by 1:30.

Attire:  Students must wear school polo shirt with jeans/shorts.  They may bring a cap to wear.

Lunch:  Please send your child with a sack lunch.  We will have our snack and lunch at Underwood Farms.  If you ordered lunch, you still have time to cancel your order. 🙂

We will be out in the gorgeous sunshine so remember to apply sunblock on your child.

RELIGION: Loving God and others by making good choices and God’s Gift of Self.   We will continue to learn about the mass.

LANGUAGE ARTS:  rhyming; ABC order; punctuation and grammar;

The children are doing great with their cursive.  We will finish up the lower case letter within this week  and next (k,q, v, x, z).  We will begin capital letters (caps are easier than lowercase) as soon as we are done with lowercase letters.

READING: We will finish up with “The Art Lesson” by Tomie DePaola.  We will continue reading Tomie DePaola books this week along with phonics library books to reinforce fluency and comprehension.

SPELLING: No new unit for this week, but we will review and catch up.
  We just took a pretest for Unit 34 (prefix re-& un-).  There will be no test for this week since the kids did very well on the pretest.

Writing:  Responding to Big Anthony by Tomie DePaola

MATH: Adding and subtracting facts to 20; Addition and subtraction with 3 digit numbers.  We also review addition and subtraction with four digit numbers.  We are focusing on time using an analog clock (Example:  20 minutes after 2 is 2:20…Half past two is 2:30).  We are reviewing measurement using, feet, yards, inches, centimeters and meters.
