Dear Second Grade Families,

Parent’s day was a great success!!!  I enjoyed watching all of you interact with your child. This week we continue celebrating Catholics School’s Week with faculty/staff appreciation day on Tuesday.  On Wednesday, your child will have lunch provided by Ms. Benner and may wear free dress.   We look forward to an exciting week.

A Look at our Week:

The highlight for our second graders continues to be handwriting.  We have worked on i, l and h.  We will learn to connect the l and h.  I will introduce  u this week.

HOMEWORK: Reading Log, Fluency & IXL (B.3 & B.5)

RELIGION: Practice the Act of Contrition.  We will be focusing on how Jesus Leads Us to His Peace. We continue discussing sin and temptation.

LANGUAGE ARTS:

Reading:  We will begin a new story Jamaica Louise James, a realistic fiction selection.  Our focus is to evaluate and  reading for fluency and comprehension.  We will also continue our read aloud, Boxcar Children (Book 1).

Spelling/: UNIT 17 homophones;  We will take our spelling test this Friday instead of Thursday.

ABC Order; Dictionary Work; Word families.

Writing:  Narrative writing/Some students have started publishing their work.  I can’t wait to see their work.

MATH: We will be working on temperature, Fahrenheit and Celsius.  We will continue reviewing metal math, skip counting and word problems.

SCIENCE:  We will be focusing on gravity, simple machines and review vocabulary & concepts.  This week we will focus on making a pulley.

SOCIAL STUDIES:  We continue discussing freedom and equality.

1/29:   Wednesday:  Student Appreciation Day!   Lunch will be provided by    Mrs. Benner for all students.  No Homework!

1/30   Parish Appreciation Day!
