Dear Second Grade Parents,
It was great to see everyone who attended Back-To-School. This week will be four full days with Friday being a minimum day.
Reminders:
Tuesday and Thursday: P.E. uniform
Thursday: Students return their two books since we have our library day on Thursday’s.
Friday is Minimum Day!
Our Academic Week:
Homework: This week we will continue with studying for spelling words unit 2. Please allow approximately 10 minutes daily to study for spelling words. Visit spellingcity.com to practice words.
This week we will be adding IXL and Reading Log. I sent a copy of the reading log for this week only. You will have to print out your own reading log weekly.
Students must work on second grade section A.1 and A.2 for 20 minutes or more a week. If your child finishes the section before the 20 minutes please have them work on the following P.1 and P.2 of second grade. If your child does not complete the 20 minutes, they will not get credit for homework.
All homework is due on Monday. I check IXL on Sunday evenings since all homework is due on Monday.
Religion: We will finish our Family Life, Unit 1 : God’s Gift of Family; God’s plan and Rules and choices
English Language Arts: More short vowels in spelling and phonics, identifying a sentence, reading for comprehension, fluency and homophones.

Look on spelling city to get your child’s spelling list or look in their planner. Spelling Test will be on Thursday since Friday is a minimum day.
We are beginning Flat Stanely as a class. Theme 1: Silly Stories next week.
Writing: We will continue writing in our journals. Students will identify capitalization and punctuation after they finish writing.
Math: We are working on recognizing the value of money and counting money. We will review skip counting, months of the year and adding. Please practice the value of coins (nickel, dime, quarter, penny).
Science: We will begin our plant life cycle lesson. How do plants change during their life cycles?
Social Studies: We will begin reviewing vocabulary from unit 1: We Belong to Many Groups.
