Sneak Peek of our Academic Week

math: This week we are becoming familiar with the place value of decimals; tenths, hundredths, and thousandths! We will use base-ten blocks to help us visualize and determine the place value as we work to compare decimals, too!

reading: We will work on summarizing, predictions, and inferencing this week! By watching a Pixar short, La Luna, we will use our summaries of what happened in the film to help us use inferential thinking. We will also practice this skill in our differentiated reading groups using novels, close reading, and short stories!

writing: It’s time to draft our reports! We have worked hard on the pre-writing process of our pieces, but now, it’s time to draft. Also, we will work on formatting our leads/introductions. How can we, as authors, hook readers so that they will want to read our reports?

word work: We continue on with Words Their Way! This is our differentiated spelling program where we focus on spelling patterns to help us become the best spellers we can be! Spelling words can be found on Vocabulary A-Z + in your child’s planner. It’s always great to practice these throughout the week!

religion: This week, as we step into our Lenten journey, we are going to spend time becoming familiar with Lent as well as getting our hearts and minds ready for the upcoming season.

We will be attending Ash Wednesday mass at 8:30 AM this Wednesday. Please come join us if your schedule allows!

science: This week in science we will explore the mystery, “Where do clouds come from?” We will observe important clues, such as the fact that water changes from a liquid to a gas (even without boiling!)

Have a wonderful week!
Miss Poindexter
