Sneak Peek to our Academic Week
Math: This week we will wrap up Unit 8 on fractions! We will work through Units 8.5-8.8, where we will work with equivalent fractions, comparing fractions, and fractions larger than one. Our math test is scheduled for next week.
Reading: Although we finished our class read aloud, we are still lingering with the book during our lessons. This week, we will spend a lot of time working with story elements; the main character, the setting, the problem, and resolution of the text, finding examples of each of those elements in Because of Winn Dixie. Then, we will begin a new class read aloud and begin to compare and contrast it to Because of Winn Dixie.
Writing: We continue drafting our opinions pieces using the OREO format. This helps us to structure our opinion pieces. As we continue drafting this week, we will focus a lot on paragraphing, too!
Word Work: Words can be found in your child’s planner and on spellingcity.com. As you study the words at home, remember to ask your child what their word pattern is, as we work closely working on the spelling pattern rather than memorizing how to spell the word. Spelling tests are scheduled for this Thursday.
Religion: This week we continue on with The Seven Sacraments. On Friday, we will be headed to church for Stations of the Cross at 1:45p. If your schedule allows, please come join us!
Science: We continue learning about plant selection, exploring the question, “How could we make the biggest fruit in the world?”
Social Studies: We continue studying about American Indians, more specifically…The Chumash!
Blessings,
