A look into our week:

Math: We are close to the end of Unit 2!  This week we will be tackling number stories using several different diagrams and strategies.  We have gotten very used to addition number stories, but now we begin practicing subtraction number stories- paying attention to what key words in the number story tell us to subtract.  Towards the end of this week we will be practicing the partial-sums algorithm. This algorithm is a different way to solve 2, 3 or 4 digit addition problems.

Reading: In reading, we will continue practicing strategies to use when coming across “tricky” words, or sentences. This week we have stepped into figurative language/expressions, adding more tricks into our bag to help us figure out what the expression is trying to tell us.

Writing: We have begun our second piece of narrative writing…and this time, the students are the captains! In this part of our unit, the students are expected to take in all the strategies they have learned thus far, and begin a brand new narrative story, thinking back to all they have learned these past couple of months and apply it all into a piece of writing.

Spelling: Spelling words can be found in your child’s planner. Spelling tests will be this Friday.

Religion: This week in religion we will discuss our God given gifts, talking about the ways that we can use those gifts to help others.  We have also begun reciting the St. Michael of Archangel prayer, learning about when and why we use this prayer.  Our ultimate goal is to have this prayer memorized.

Grammar: We continue with practicing our punctuation: periods, commas, quotation marks, etc. The goal is to learn these well so that they all reflect back into our writing.

Social Studies: This week we will be going more in depth on all of the different types of bodies of water and landforms.  We will be working in our interactive notebooks for this one!

Have a wonderful week!
