Dear Third Grade Families,
I can’t believe we are already in mid-September! Time has been flying in third grade!
Here are some important dates for this week…
- Wednesday, 9/19 is free ($1) dress day!
- Thursday, 9/20 is our library day. Don’t forget to bring books to school!
- Friday, 9/21 is another full-day Friday.
Homework:
- 100 minutes of reading & recorded in reading logs.
Side note: I log/record minutes read every week. In some cases, your child’s reading log may be left in their homework folder if it wasn’t completely filled up. This does not mean that it is incomplete…I am only doing this to save some trees! If your child runs out of space throughout the week, they know where to get a new, blank reading log from our classroom!
- Fluency passage and questions
- IXL Math: S.1, S.2 & S.6
A sneak peek into our academic week…
Math: This week we will wrap up our Unit 1! We will be focusing a lot on money amounts, counting dollars and cents, and number patterns! Next week we plan on having our first math test!
Reading: This week in reading we continue practicing on finding textual cues as we read, then begin working on envision and predicting in our reading. What do we think will happen next in our book, and why?
Writing: We continue with drafting our narrative books! This week we will use other famous and successful authors as our coach to writing. Together, we will talk about the great things authors do in their books and how WE can do those great things in our own writing, too!
Word Work: We are in week two of our word work rotations! Spelling words will be found in your child’s planner. For extra practice, your child can use spellingcity.com to continue practicing their spelling words throughout the week! Their username and login should be found in their planner. If you have questions about accessing spelling city, let me know! Spelling tests will be this Friday.
Religion: We continue on with the 9 Sacraments, discussing why God gifts us with these Sacraments. This week we will continue talking about our SLEs! So far we have discussed what it means to be a Catholic (SLE A.1) and reflecting on how often we pray and the different ways we pray throughout our time in school (SLE A.2).
Science: This week we continue on with Chapter 2 in our science books, diving into aquatic habitats and the adaptations that aquatic organisms have. This week we will be in the science lab, learning and experimenting with polar bear blubber and how that blubber helps polar bears survive in such a cold climate.
A fun-filled and busy week!
Blessings,
Miss Poindexter
