Sneak Peek To Our Academic Week
math: We have begun our next math unit! This week we will work to become familiar with several diagrams/tips and tricks to tackle tricky addition and subtraction, and word problems. Some of the diagrams we will become familiar with are:
-What’s My Rule? diagram
-Parts & Total diagram
-change number stories.
Also, we will learn how to..CUBE it out! This is an acronym to help us break apart long and tricky word problems and help us work to get the correct answers.
(C) circle the numbers
(U) underline the question
(B) box the keywords
(E) eliminate/cross out extra information
reading: We are about to finish our class read-aloud, Third Grade Angels. Now that we are nearing the end of the book and have done a lot of work analyzing the main character Suds, we will now work to compare and contrast ourselves with him as a character. Then, we will begin our new class novel study on the book, The Wild Robot.
Our guided reading groups continue! During this time in small groups, students are working diligently to develop specific reading skills.
writing: During the drafting of our personal narratives this week, we will focus on coming up with a good lead. A lead is how we begin our stories in a way that hooks our readers and gets them excited to read!
religion: This week, we will give our focus to The Sacrament of Confirmation. What is this Sacrament? How does God help us through this sacrament? We will discuss its meaning, discover the symbols that represent it, and find Bible verses that align to it.
Along with The Sacraments, we will discuss the bible story, “Let The Children Come.” We will discuss how we can learn from Jesus and act as he did. Jesus was welcoming to all and we want to make sure to do the same in our everyday lives.
word work: This week, we begin our differentiated spelling program–Words Their Way! This program is a way for our students to learn phonics, vocabulary, and spelling. It’s a hands-on approach to use word study to help us become better spellers. New spelling words will be written in your child’s planner every Monday.
science: We continue with Forces and Motion. We had a lot of fun last week during our “Force Fight” lab, where we worked together to “battle” one another while coming up with how force and motion work with everyday objects; pencil, ball, piece of paper, and string. This week we will learn all about balanced and unbalanced forces.
A lot of learning! Have a wonderful week!
Blessings,
Miss Poindexter
Happy Wednesday! I hope you all enjoyed the long weeke
