Our Week:

Math: This week, we are “traveling” the world and calculating fly distances from Washington D.C. We’re practicing measuring to the nearest 1/2 inch and learning some geography along the way!

Reading: We finished reading The Tiger Rising and are doing some fun end-of-book activities. This week, we will do some soap carving as our main character was a wood whittler! We’ll begin a non-fiction reading unit next week.

Writing: As we get ready to publish, we are focusing on grammar skills. Students are learning about how to prevent and adjust run-on sentences as well as how to use punctuation for effect.

Religion: We are learning about the miracles Jesus performed and the power of forgiveness.

Science: We are learning about volcanoes and answering the question: Is it possible for a volcano to pop up in my backyard? We connect this information to our studies of the Ashfall Fossil Site in Nebraska.

Social Studies: We will be taking our first Social Studies test this week and move into more of California’s history.

Let’s have a great rest of the week!
