Dear 4th Grade Families,

It was so great to see so many of you on Friday! Our students did a wonderful job performing with their recorders for the first time. Thanks for celebrating with us!

Important Dates:

  • Friday, November 11: NO SCHOOL – Veterans Day

Homework:

  • IXL Math:
    • S.5 — Place values in decimal numbers
    • S.16 — Compare decimals using models
  • 20-30 minutes of reading, 5 times a week – 5 Reading Responses
    • We’re moving into Nonfiction so I will be asking students to read and respond using nonfiction texts

Our Week:

  • Math: We will be taking our Unit 3 test Tuesday! Students have reviewed multiplication, solving for variables, and using parentheses in this unit. Next, we move into studying decimals.

  • Reading: Nonfiction texts surround us! Students are exploring texts with partners. We are studying different text structures so that we can better understand the information shared.

  • Writing: This week, we share our writing with one another with our Publishing Celebration. Next, we will move into Opinion writing.

  • Religion: We are learning about how to form a good conscience by studying what Christ and his Church teach us.

  • Social Studies: We’ll study more about the CA Natives’ culture and environment.

  • Science: As we continue learning about the formation of rocks, we ask the question: Can a mountain last forever? Our lab activity last week with “lava” was an exciting time!
Our “lava” lab last week! Which kind of volcano has thin lava and which has thick lava?

Let’s have a great (short) week,

Ms. Schmaeling
