Hello 4th Grade Families!

We are busy prepping for the Almost Spring Showcase. Lots of great information has been researched by your students, and they are excited to share all their hard work. Due to the forecasted rain this Friday, we’ll plan to share this learning with you next week on the 17th!

Important Dates:

  • Wednesday, March 8: Stations of the Cross – 2pm
  • Friday, March 10: 12pm Dismissal // Last day of the 2nd Trimester!
  • Friday, March 17: Almost Spring Showcase **new date** // 2pm Dismissal with Assembly and Families

Homework:

  • IXL Math: (Remember, the goal is NOT 100 — please encourage students to attempt the skills and to do their best)
    • H.2: Graph points on a coordinate plane
    • Y.7: Draw angles with a protractor
  • 20-30 minutes of reading, 5 times a week – 5 Reading Responses (Tuesday-Tuesday)
    • This week for their journal responses, students can read nonfiction or fiction books. Please have them use the menus as their guide.

This Week:

  • Math: We continue to practice division strategies, focusing on the Partial Quotients as our main method. Students will be tested on their learning this week. Our test will cover Division, Angle Measuring, and Coordinate Plane skills.
  • Reading: We learn more about Karana and her tribe as we continue to read The Island of the Blue Dolphins. Students are deepening their vocabulary and creating vivid mental movies of the chapters’ happenings.
  • Writing: Our writing focus this week is geared toward our Mission projects. Students are taking the next step in the research process by wrapping all the information they have gathered into nice, concentrated paragraphs.
  • Social Studies: As a class, we are reading about the Mission system as a whole. We are learning about the daily life of the missionaries and California Indians and comparing/contrasting their roles. Students are also using this time to compare what we talk and read about to what they’ve researched about their specific missions.
  • Science: Sound! This week, we aim to wrap up our final lesson on sound; specifically, sound waves.
  • Religion: In Religion this week, we discuss how to respect the name of the Lord.

Let’s have a great week,

Ms. Schmaeling
