Dear 4th Grade Families,
I hope you’ve had a great weekend. Here’s an update of what we are currently learning in class! (Also, don’t forget to check out our podcast to hear from the students about our week! See link at end of post.)
Important Dates:
- Wednesday, October 4: Picture Day (in uniform)
- Friday, October 6: 12pm Dismissal
Our Learning:
- Math: Using Numbers and Organizing Data — Today we estimated how many raisins were in each of our boxes and then used our collected data to find maximums, minimums, and modes! We’re also reviewing place value as we add larger numbers.
- Reading: We continue our character study of Rob in The Tiger Rising as we focus this week on the problems he is facing. We think: How are these problems affecting him? and How will Rob work through these problems?
- Writing: Personal Narratives – Adding Details and Dialogue! We’re working on making our stories more specific so readers can clearly visualize them.
- Grammar: Verbs! A verb is a word, it’s an action word. If you can do it, then you do it. If you do it, it’s a verb!
- Religion: The Parts of the Mass — As we prepare ourselves for Mass, we study what the 4 parts of the Mass are as well as their roles.
- Science: Eyes – What do people who are blind see? We continue with our eye model and discover why nocturnal animals can see better in the dark than humans.
- Social Studies: Human Geography of California – How do the people of California’s lives differ from region to region?
Homework: DUE OCTOBER 10
- Reading Response Journal: around 20-30 minutes of reading, 5 times a week – 5 Reading Responses (Tuesday-Tuesday)
- This week for their journal responses, students will read fiction books. Please have them use the menus as their guide. As students complete reading responses, have them color or cross out the activity chose.
- IXL:
- Math A.11: Place Value Review
- Math D.3: Add two multi-digit numbers
Let’s have a great week,
Ms. Schmaeling
