Dear 4th Grade Families,
We are soaking up our last few days together! Here’s an update of what we are currently learning and doing in class!
Important Dates and Reminders:
- Monday, May 20: Art with Ms. Sofer
- Tuesday, May 21: Library (Returning Books)
- Wednesday, May 22: Crowning of Mary – 2pm (All are welcome!)
- Thursday, May 23: 12pm Dismissal
- Friday, May 24 and Monday, May 27: No School for Memorial Day
Our Learning:
- Math: Fractions! We spend our time this week learning about equivalent fractions and how to find them. We will also be learning about how fractions can be written as decimals. As our year wraps, we will also be taking short assessments to measure our growth in math this year!
- Reading: We continue to read By The Great Horn Spoon, learn new vocabulary, and respond to questions with text evidence. Students are doing a great job making predictions and connections across the chapters and to our learning in Social Studies!
- Writing: This week, students continue to make final revisions on their reports. Our goal is to finish revising, editing, and start publishing.
- Grammar: Review of Prepositional Phrases
- Word Work: This is our last week with Words Their Way! This is our differentiated spelling program where we focus on spelling patterns to help us become the best spellers we can be. Spelling words can be found on Vocabulary A-Z + in your child’s planner. It’s always great to practice these throughout the week.
- Religion: In addition to our learning of Mary-related songs for the May Crowning on Wednesday, we will be spending our last weeks of school on the Beatitudes.
- Science: Energy – Could you knock down a building using only dominos?
- Social Studies: Gold Rush – We learn about the lasting effects of the Gold Rush.
Homework
- No more homework for 2023-24 school year! 🙂
Let’s have a great week,
Ms. Schmaeling
